We found time for a quick trip out onto the machair as day turned to a gentle dusk.

We went a bit off the highway and headed for the nearest coast to our lovely little flat and found a magnificent display of daisies.

It was just fantastic – particularly with South Uist’s mountains for a backdrop.

The daisies were mixed in with some kind of oats. It really was quite dark and flash photography hasn’t done this crop justice.

Here we can see a little of Daliburgh – amazing in the really dark conditions.

We made our way to the beach where the rocky shore was a mass of seaweed.

With the flower-strewn machair reaching right down to the beach we left for a good night’s sleep.
