Callanish

We had heard of Callanish – a set of standing stones to rival Stonehenge or Avebury in our own county of Wiltshire. It was still a Sunday so the visitor centre was closed but we could wander freely, in all senses of the word, around the stones.

There maybe standing stones but there were also sitting sheep. What people actually do for as living always interests me and at Callanish which is a present day village, sheep were kept.

And beyond the sheep was the water and mountains of Lewis.

As usual in these western isles, there were flowers to enjoy.

And so to the stones.

The remains of a building which, compared with the stones, is almost brand new.
