Eriskay is a part of the Catholic south of the string of islands known as the Outer Hebrides. So no wonder wayside shrines to Mother Mary were to be found.
We approached Rhuban, the only real place on Eriskay
Language can be fascinating. Eaglaise is clearly the Gaelic for chapel or church. It looks the same word as the French eglise and also the Welsh yglwys. So Rathad must be road. To the left of the sign we can see South Uist.
