Grimsay and Kallin

We drove across Benbecula and onto the causeway that links this island to North Uist.

Part way across the sandy area, the road makes use of a corner of the isle of Grimsay.

A road loops around this island.

We decided to loop around it as well which brought us to Ceallan or Kallin which is the more English version of the name.

It was a watery route.

Kallin was active with fishing boats.

Here was the Aquaria.

I love the way you can find out about these boats on the web.

Port Registry: Kirkwall

Name: Aquaria

Home Port: Kallin

Type of Gear: scallop Dredge

Main Target Species: Scallops

So, Aquaria is a scallop hunter!

Kallin, perhaps, had replaced other east coast places we had been to on South Uist. It was equipped with a good quay and modern lifting facilities.

The sea views were just fab at Kallin – the map shows a mass of islands just off-shore, and there they were.

A tourist at Kallin – they probably aren’t all that common on this quay, built in the 1980s.

We hadn’t yet reach North Uist and needed to be on an island off the far end of it for a ferry – so we’d better press on.
