Let’s start with a morning look at the tent on the campsite – and as you can see, it really wasn’t special although there were views over Stornoway and out to sea.

Yes, that was quite nice really.
Our plan for the day was to go west.

Our campsite was at the right of the map, near the blue flag, which was on the edge of Stornoway. Each square on the map is 10 km across so it was a moderate journey. Lewis is a big island.
The signed route misses the A road – and so did we but we made it easily enough to Achad Mor.

It was a hazy morning, but pleasant enough. This was near Loch Glanvich.

It was not entirely deserted country.

But the sheep certainly ruled the roost.

We stopped near Garynahine and took a short walk. The peat cutting caught the eye.

The flora was lovely as well.

Bog cotton grew over the hilly terrain.

There was a stone circle – quite unsung although marked on our map.

These lonely places seem more special than Stonehenge, with its huge car park and crowds.

Posing with a stone in the Garyhanine circle.

A lovely lichen-covered stone.

We returned to our car, parked by the peat cutting.
And so on we went, westward.
