Port of Ness

Just up the coast from Skigersta was Port of Ness (Port Nis) with a rather more substantial harbour.

It was low tide and much of the harbour was high and dry.

But water was rushing in through the narrow inlet.

In the background here, you can see the housing – a surprising amount for what, on the face of it, is a very remote part of the British Isles.

Like at Port Skigersta, the slipway was a slippery way.

We arrived at Port of Ness at the same time as a rather intrepid party of people on a coach tour from Surrey. I felt some of them might have found the slipway difficult but others were rock scrambling in search of views. We’ll come across this coach again.

We, fit and young by comparison with the Surrey party, were able to get about and enjoy views.

Moving yet further north, I couldn’t resist this place name.

There was a definite village in this area.
