Butt of Lewis

Last time I had a fairly close up map. This time I’m showing the arrowed Butt of Lewis in context.

The grid squares are 50 kilometre ones here – about thirty miles. You can see we weren’t that far south of the most northerly point on the mainland.

So let’s head to that northern outpost of the Outer Hebrides – Butt of Lewis and its lighthouse.

The above, of course, is all signage and for us, it was not windy at all and the raging sea of the sign was a tranquil millpond when we were there.

The lighthouse and associated buildings.

Bird watching

Ooh! Just look at the crumples in those rocks. Wonderful.

A vaguely reflective scene.

The scenery was lovely.

In fact it was fabulous. It was chilly and grey but wind free.

And there were birds to be seen. I’m not sure what this is, but there were loads of fulmars about.

We had hardly moved at all.

We just strolled around the lighthouse past what looked like a fairly recent cliff fall.

And now it was time to head south again.
